Hello, My name is Zachary Portlock and I am a Christian Athlete who attends Davidson High School located in Mobile, Alabama. I am an upcoming Sophomore in the class of 2017. I am an young inside/middle linebacker that has an extremely high desire to play college football. I have been playing football since I was 4 years old. I have always been a defensive player. In park ball league I played safety and corner back and wide receiver. I played for Municipal Raiders in the Mobile Youth Football Conference. While playing on the Municipal Raiders we won seven (7) straight Youth Bowl Championships. I also played Baseball at Municipal Park beginning from four (4) years old up until I was twelve(12) years old. When I first came to Davidson High School as a freshman, I was the starting safety. Unfortunately, I suffered from a broken shoulder blade and had to sit out for the entire season. I also play J.V.and Varsity Baseball at Davidson High School. During this off season, I was moved to outside linebacker. In our summer scrimmage game, I made several tackles, and the following week the defense coordinator moved me to inside linebacker because I wasn't afraid to lay a lick. This year I have worked my butt off and earned the first string starting spot at inside linebacker for Varsity durine the first game of my sophomore year. I am determined to outwork all of the linebackers. My goal number one is to be the best football player that I can be.
I also know that grades are just as important sports because without the grades, there's a low chance of playing football. My weighted GPA is a 3.6 and my unweighted GPA is a 3.2. I would like to get a degree in the field of engineering. Architectural engineering to be exact. I am in the EPIC program at Davidson which is for the study of engineering. My top goal, academic wise, is to receive an academic scholarship. I learned from my sister at a young age how important academics were. She also motivated me with sports along with my mother and father. I don't have any problems behavior wise. My mother and father also told me at a young age about attitudes. My father told me to show no emotion in sports whether it is good of bad because I've learned that coaches will try to see if you're mentally tough and how you react to most things. I would say that I'm mentally prepared for anything. Whenever a coach yells at me, it makes me want to work even harder to perfect whatever is wrong. Also The following week, I maintained my starting position against Baker High School & got my career high of 13 tackles. During my junior season I had over sixty tackles and one interception as a starting linebacker and I was nominated as a member of the counsel which is a captain. My goals for this upcoming Senior year is to be a better player on and off of the field.
