Personal Statement
Playing the game I love while obtaining an Engineering/Math degree is my goal. I am preparing everyday to be ready for an opportunity to play at the next level at a top academic university or college. My grades and class selection along with my level of dedication and commitment to getting better at football remain at the highest level to ensure I won’t close any doors available to me in the future.
When coaches, teachers and peers are asked about me, the two words most commonly used are leader and competitor. I have always assumed leadership roles in the classroom and athletics. From President of my elementary school to captain of sports teams, I am most comfortable with being responsible and accountable. Secondly, if you ask anyone who plays with or against me, I hate to lose and I never give up. You can count on me to win or die trying. Playing football, I have made great plays and big mistakes but I have never quit. My dad always says, “Quarterbacks get too much credit when things go well and too much blame when things go bad.” I have learned that no one is interested in excuses and that real leaders assume responsibility and take all the blame and none of the credit. Born the son of a West Point graduate, leadership and competiveness come natural to me.
As the only boy in the middle of five children in my family, the football field has been my refuge. While I’m grateful everyday for what I have learned and continue to learn from my four sisters, there is nothing like competing toward a common goal with my Band of Brothers. My tackle football career began at left guard. At 8 years old, lineman could be successful with heart, intellect and athleticism. Size wasn’t a factor. But as I grew taller and leaner, I moved from lineman to tight end to quarterback. Starting my football education on the offensive line gives me an invaluable perspective other quarterbacks don’t have. Teamwork is paramount. I KNOW games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage.
My hope is to get the chance to demonstrate my leadership, pursuit of excellence, teamwork and competitiveness playing football at the next level. I will be ready if my number is called.
