As I near the end of my high school years I have become more focused in what future goals I need to set for myself. The obvious and best choice for my future would be to attend a well accredited university where I can further my education and put me closer to the primary goal that I have set for my adult life. Through attending your university I can begin to pursue my goal of becoming a licensed physical therapist.
My goal is to become a physical therapist, and then get certified to specialize in sports. Two careers that I pondered in pursuing were a registered nurse or a professional football player. Both of these careers have some of the characteristics that are present in the primary career path I have decided to pursue. A registered nurse needs plenty of studying and also having to enter a program to learn general medical situations. A professional football player commits themselves to plenty of practice and study about the game. As a physical therapist, I see myself combining both of those careers. I want to perfect these skills of therapy, and treat individuals of all ages to perform functional activities in their daily lives.
I am the youngest of four in my family and all three of my siblings continued on with their education after high school by attending a university. My sister’s major in the nursing program was the only one that really caught my attention. I did some research into the medical field and physical therapy was my favorite aspects of the field to gain more information about. I’ve been involved in sports my whole life and my family is really supportive in my athlete and academic endeavors. I would like to major in physical therapy and get certified to specialize in sports. It would be awesome to continue to learn the needed education to be certified as a physical therapist to help others.
The plan in college is to become a Physical Therapist by first majoring in exercise science with a minor in kinesiology. After obtaining my bachelor degree, I would continue into a physical therapy graduate program. While in that program I will work hard to get my Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, to follow the goal that I have set for myself as a high school student. Once I get the DPT in the physical therapy program, I know I will need to obtain a license to practice physical therapy.
