Personal Statement

My name is Justin Ryan Calton but everyone calls me J.R.. I am 6"2', 210lbs, and run the 40 in 5.03 seconds. 2011 will be my second year of playing varsity football. I consider it a privelege to have the opportunity to play varisty for 3 years because our school is a senior ran program. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the 2010 season I injured my hand on a metal clip when I made the tackle. After several stitches and some rehabilitation I was back in the game. However, this only allowed me 4 games with play time. But I didn't let that stop me from being a team player- I never missed a practice, I made sure that I was the first to carry the equipment bags and last to eat at team meals. It's important to me to show respect to the coaches and the players. It's also important to me to show that I have good work ethics. My family lives by two mottos; "Calton's never quit" and "Finish strong." I do my best to apply these words in the classroom, on the field, and at home. In the classroom I'm a solid student. I work hard to get my homework done and study hard for tests. On the field, I just want to see how good I can get. So I keep my head in the game, practice hard, and always give 110%. I'm the same way at home. I work hard, play hard, and love my family. Currently, when I think about choosing a college, I just want to continue to play football. I don't have a location or college that I must play for, nor do I have to play Defensive End. I want a solid match for my athletic ability, academic level, and personality. Athletically, I want to play. Academically, I want to be able compete in the classroom on my own ability. I am considering a degree in some type of Law Enforcement. I'm not sure if that major will be Criminal Law or Criminology but I have always dreamed of having a K-9 Unit. My personality is a bit on the shy side. I'm not flashy or a hot head, and people say, "I'm the nicest mean guy they know," because off the field I'm a very loyal guy but on the field I can't wait to hit you. However, if I knock you down, I'll also be the first to pick you up. I have a strong faith in God and that effects my actions as well. I think a good fit for me is anywhere that I can grow and excel as an athlete, a student and as a person. As I look to the future, I have several goals for my high school career. First, I want to be sure to carry at least a 3.5 GPA. Second, I plan on making an impact as a 3 year varsity player by contributing 110%. I'd like to win our division and make the playoffs each year. And lastly, when I am a senior, I plan on leading my team as a Team Captain.
