Personal Statement
I am a 3 sport Varsity athlete, in my Junior year at California High School, and next year will be my 4th year playing football at Cal High (second on Varsity), where I have always started on both sides of the ball. In addition to football, I am a starter on the Varsity Basketball and Baseball teams. On the field or the court, I am driven to be the best I can be by being prepared both mentally and physically, by being coachable and willing to learn, and putting in the necessary effort in the weight room or film room. Off the field and in the classroom, I focus on being a person of high character that leads by example, and putting in the necessary work to achieve excellent grades. As a result of my efforts, I have been recognized by my peers as a leader on many of the teams I was a member of, and have been a repeat Scholar Athlete at my high school. The greatest influence on who I am today, and why I am pursuing playing college ball, has to be my dad. He was a great athlete in football, and I strive to be like the player he was and the person he is.
I have been playing football, basketball and baseball, since I was 8 years old, and have been a fan all 3 sports all my life. All my years of playing organized sports has taught me that by working hard, you can overcome adversity and achieve things that a lot of people thought weren’t possible. An example of this is when people told me that I wouldn’t be able to play three Varsity sports in High School, be an impact player on all those teams, and maintain a high GPA. I have come to realize that by working harder than anyone else, and doing the things that others aren’t willing to do, I can achieve almost anything in life.
In high school, I pride myself on excelling in the classroom. I always aim to make honor roll, and maintain a high GPA. I take honors and AP classes, and work every day to do my very best. In college, I expect nothing less than to continue what I am doing now and making sure I take care of my scholastic as well as my athletic responsibilities.
Off the field, I spend my time outdoors and aiding the community with my Boy Scout troop. I have been in Scouting since I was in kindergarten, and have benefited from the leadership opportunities it has afforded me. I also donate my time participating in the Challenger baseball program, whose focus is to allow mentally and physically challenged youth the opportunity to play baseball with their peers.
Over the next year, I have set a series of goals for myself.
1. Maintain my 3.8 GPA
2. Continue to be a leader on my football team, and lead them to another successful season, by winning our league and taking them deep into the playoffs.
3. Work to become the best Defensive End in our League, and be recognized as such by the coaches at other schools.
4. Earn my “Black Shirt” in the weight room, signifying that I have achieved the highest levels of strength development at our High School.
5. Earn a scholarship to play football in college, while pursuing my degree in engineering or business.
Thank you for your time and I hope that you will consider me for a position on your football team.
