Personal Statement

As an athlete I strive to be the best player I can be and apply the same vigor to furthering my academic and life experiences. I hope to earn a scholarship for sports to open college doors that otherwise would remain closed economically for me and my family. Throughout my whole life I have been raised around sports and have always been active. My freshman year I was introduced to wrestling along with my football. I started varsity wrestling as a sophomore and last year had the ability to acquire second in my CIF division (weight 220 lbs) helping my team clench a CIF championship. In my high school career I was given two very different football experiences, one bad and the other incredible. With the introduction of a new coach my junior year my team was transformed from 0-16 to a 6-6 team making it to the second round of CIF playoffs. For last season I was the teams starting center all year long and earned second team all league in a competitive conference. This season I have been moved to starting middle linebacker and clutch blocking tight end. I am a returning team captain last year earning captain of the year. Thus far into the season I have had success and great growth at my new position. Recently, my coaches gave me the honor of switching my number from previously being 55 to taking 63 which was my coaches number when he played because I represent what he wants in his players. From this experience I understand the value of effective coaching and the importance of pushing ones self both physically and mentally. I look forward to progressing myself as a student and athlete to become a positive and effective member of society.

With the end of this last football season I was able to experience great success with my team and after. We ended the season making it to the semi finals of CIF and won our league ( something our school hasn't done in over 10 years). I was awarded most inspirational player along with MVP from my teammates and coaches. I also had the privilege of playing in a local all-star game, it was an amazing experience and had a great game playing all the linebacker positions.
