Personal Statement
My name is Alex Palacio and I am an incoming Senior (Class of 2018) at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, California. I am interested in attending a 4-year university and would love the opportunity to continue playing sports while furthering my education. I play on my high school Varsity Golf and Football teams and consider myself a well-rounded student-athlete.
I lead my high school varsity golf team as a 2 year Captain and 4- year starter. We are the 2017 Varsity League Champions, I am a 2017 1st Team All-league, 2016 2nd Team All-league and 2015 All-League Honorable Mention. For football, I as recently was honored with receiving the Captains award, Defensive MVP, Impact Players of the year and 1st Team All-League. My football team was 2017 League Champions, 2016 State Champion Runner-up, 2016 and 2015 Southern Section Champions, 2016 and 2015 League Champions.
As a student, I work hard in the classroom. I currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and current GPA of 3.8. I am a strong class participant, leader and independent thinker. I took AP Chemistry this past year and am taking Honors Physics and Pre-Calculus this year. I have teacher recommendation letters available upon request. In April 2017, I was the only AP Chemistry student at St. Anthony to win an award from the Southern California Section of the American Chemical Society for top test scores. I was also one of two students selected from St. Anthony to attend the 2017 Rotary Club of Long Beach Camp Enterprise in March 2017.
I have been a Campus Ministry leader since 2016 and plan to continue helping those in need. This program reaches out to adults and youth in our local community providing everything from elderly companionship and youth tutoring to hot meals for anyone who is hungry. I also have volunteered as a youth tackle football coach. I knew immediately that I wanted to be a role model like the great men I had in a sport that gave me great work ethic and helped mold me into the man I am today. I mentored kids ages 7-10 while showing them how to properly play the game without injuring themselves. I naturally have strength and a competitive spirit but patience for the long game and grace for the days I struggle came with volunteering and giving back.
