Personal Statement
Ever since I was a child, I loved playing football. I loved watching football, and looked up to Alejandro Villanueva as my hero; I wanted to be as good as him someday. I grew up without a father and had to find masculine role models elsewhere, for I always had a strong side of me I wanted to express but lacked the guidance on how to do that. Well, that’s not entirely true: my mom is a strong woman and a terrific mother who has always guided me and been there for me. She was the one who encouraged me to play baseball, basketball, and other sports in order to find myself. However, my mom was worried for my safety and hesitant about my goals with football. And yet, I somehow convinced her to let me play in my first club the Glendale Bears. During this time, she saw my dedication to this goal and is now my number one cheerleader.
When I got to play on my high school’s JV team I got to play both offense and defense and gained enough experience over two years to specialize on right tackle on the offensive line of the Varsity team last year. Through all this, I’ve learned the value of discipline and hard work. I practice 6 days a week and during the off season I stick to a strict gym regimen of lifting. I also run fast for my size and weight, and these things combined have helped me be a starter for my team through 3 years of high school. In addition, I strive to maintain a good GPA because I know academics are important. I want to continue being a starter going into my senior year and then hope to play at the college level as a starter as well, so I’m always looking for the next thing to improve my playing.
While playing football is my passion, I also have dreams of going to college and dedicating myself to a Law Enforcement career. Though I’m unsure what I want to major in yet, I do know I want to study something related to criminal justice. This is something I realized from my experience being a LAPD Cadet.Hopefully I can be a police officer with this background and accomplishing future goals.
