In terms of my college goals and aspirations, I would like to major in business and look forward to taking classes in a variety of business-related subjects, such as finance, international business, and management. In addition to being a business major, I am excited to explore elective courses, such as film studies, exercise science, and music appreciation. My primary passion and goal is to be a starting defensive tackle for my college’s football team and look forward to playing a key role on the defensive side of the ball. I am always eager to learn from my teachers in school and from my football coaches. I am committed to continuing to grow academically and athletically in college.
I believe that I am an outstanding candidate for your football team for the following reasons. I am dedicated to playing football and work hard to excel in everything that I am passionate about. I am an excellent team player and always willing to do what is best for my team and stick to my coaches’ priorities. I am well-liked by my teammates and coaching staff and enjoy serving as a role model for younger players. At the end of this past season, it was very rewarding when the head coach said to me “Liam, you have the ability to play football at any Division I school that you want.”
People who know me well will describe me as being very honest, having high integrity and being highly coachable. I seek out recommendations for improvement from my coaches, teammates, and parents by willingly listening and accepting their constructive criticism. While I am a fierce competitor on the football field, my attitude off the field is to remain calm and level-headed in all circumstances.
Here’s how I am different from other recruits: I was a dominant player for both defense and offense on my freshman team. Instead of moving from the freshman team to the JV team, I was selected to play on the Varsity team. As a sophomore, I started for both offensive and defensive lines and was the only sophomore who started both ways on my Varsity team. Also, during my freshman year, I was a starting player on our Varsity Lacrosse team. I decided not to continue on with Lacrosse during my sophomore year as I wanted to focus on improving my football skills and conditioning.
I am very well-respected by the juniors and seniors on my Varsity team, as well as by my coaches. As a sophomore, I was awarded Second Team All-League for the Mission League, considered to be one of the hardest divisions in America. I was the only football player recognized for the Iron-Man Award at the end of my sophomore season.
My strong work ethic from playing sports carries over to my academics and everything related to school. During my freshman year, I worked hard to substantially improve my grades and overall GPA in the second semester versus my first semester. I achieved high grades in Spanish and Biology both semesters and raised my grades in Math and English by the end of my freshman year. I am very proud when my sophomore English teacher Mrs. Cantwell said: “Liam, you are the hardest working student and you deserve the best grade in this class.” The positive feedback I receive from my teachers and coaches motivates me to always do my best and to be the best version of me that I can be.
