Personal Statement
I'll never forget the day when I saw the Dallas Cowboys on the NFL game of the week when I first moved to California. The massive collisions and speed of the game have always been an interest to me. Any school's football program can teach me footwork or how to properly throw a football, but Elsinore's team has impacted me in a different way. The most important aspect of my football program is that if you want a great team you need to be a perfect teammate; in other words, the world does not revolve around one player not matter the skill level. One of my offensive linemen truly instilled this concept into me when I walked in to the locker room after a tough game. His body was bruised, cut and swollen all over, yet I had never heard one complaint from him the entire game. Hardworking men like him have been driving me to work harder and improve my mental toughness on a daily basis. From this I learned that the leader of a team does is not the loud vocal leader; instead it is the hardest worker who never complains.
More importantly, my most important academic goal for high school is to never become lazy and always keep up with the smaller objectives that others do not care about because the "little things" are often the most important. As for college, I need to be able to pick a field and stay determined when the work becomes difficult. Becoming the "A" student I am today was not a walk in the park, due to all of the AP classes I enrolled in. Unfortunately, we lost the final game of the season against the rival school for the first time in eight years, which consequently dropped us out of playoff contention for the first time in almost twenty-five years. Although we worked as hard as we could last season, it was not enough, this will drive me to work harder in the offseason to improve my game and help my team to succeed next year. Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.
