Personal Statement
To Whom it May Concern:
I have dreamed all my life of playing college football. I am seeking a college with both academics and athletics that I fit well into. Each year I have set goals for weight, speed, size, etc. And each year I have achieved or exceeded my goals. I feel I am a good candidate for college football for many reasons, but in the areas of character, athletics, and academics, I feel I have been able to be successful and make a difference to not only myself, but to those whom I call teammates.
In the area of character, it is hard for me to describe me because I do not like to brag. I believe in being humble, working hard, leading by example, being honest, and using self control. I have always tried to be one who influences for good, and not allowed myself to be influenced by others to do wrong. After hearing Coach Pelini talk at a Nebraska Football Camp, I came home and got rid of all social media, not because I don't want others to know about me, but because I didn't need those distractions in my life. I have been told I am a natural leader who brings a special spark when I walk onto a field, or onto a court. I hope that is true of me.
Next, I have always loved athletics from the time I was very young. Football however, is my passion. I enjoy hitting, and hitting hard. I feel I would be a great college candidate because if I have a high bar set before me, I will achieve that bar. I am looking for a coaching staff who like to take raw athleticism and develop it. This is what I want. I want to be challenged because it helps me rise to the occasion. Also, I have played 3 sports, and in the game of football, I have played both sides of the ball as well as special teams. I feel this is advantageous because I am an athlete. I can adjust. And I have more knowledge about what is going on on the other side of the football because I have played both sides. I also feel however, that when I can focus on one sport, one side of the ball, one position, along with strength, weight, and speed, I will not disappoint any coach who recruits me. I am a competitor, and I want to play at the highest level possible so that I can grow and become better.
Finally, academics are my ticket to playing sports. If I do not do well in academics, I will not succeed in anything else. I have worked hard to get and maintain a 4.0 not because I really enjoy school, but because just getting by on the minimum GPA hasn't been good enough for me. I have chosen to do my schooling at home via Colorado Virtual Academy (9,10,11) and Colorado Connections Academy (12). This has helped me maintain a balance with school, athletics, and family.
