Personal Statement
My name is Mike Montano and I recently completed by Junior year of football at North Haven High School in Connecticut where I led the team in all-purpose yards as a starting varsity running back, and kick-off returner. Our team finished the season with a 9-3 record and we lost in the State semi-finals to the eventual state division champions. At the conclusion of the season, I was voted by my peers, team captain for the 2015 season. I look forward to working with my team in the off season in the weight room and progressing as a varsity player and taking our team to the next level.
I am currently a writer for the school newspaper and look to soon become an editor for the paper in my senior year. I see myself as a leader both on and off the football field where my peers look to me for guidance. During the summer of 2013, I attended a leadership summit at Tulane University focusing on service in action for Katrina victims in New Orleans. I have also volunteered at a local soup kitchen and for the youth football program in North Haven. I am a candidate for the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (National Math Honor Society), the National Art Honor Society, and the Latin Honor Society.
I continue to maintain my GPA of 4.23 and I am currently taking a number of honor classes, including math, sciences, and Latin. My future goal is to play football at the next level in college. I am an extremely hard worker, both on and off the football field with a strong work ethic. My coaches have pointed out how I have great leadership abilities and I am excited to lead my team in 2015.
