Personal Statement
It has been said that the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand. I’ve always viewed these words by the distinguishable Vince Lombardi as much more than just reference to an athletic team driven effort, but as an example as how one should live their everyday life. Off of the field, I’ve realized that we are all part of a team in some way or another and that working together can accomplish goals that an individual could never conceive of on their own. These are lessons that I have learned from the field and in my experiences from working in my community. I have learned that when you are dedicated and work hard, you inspire others to do the same as you all work toward a common goal, it almost becomes infectious. I am elated at my and my team’s accomplishments on the field, but I have the most pride in our ability to work together in our community, trying to spearhead efforts that will make a positive impact to our surroundings.
Learning has been as much of an integral part of my life as sports; I look at the world with such admiration and wonder, never missing out on an opportunity to learn something new about it. Classes like biology, chemistry, and physics have always given me the sense of knowing more about this grand world that surrounds me. I look for a deeper meaning when I learn a new fact about something, and this ability has transferred into other facets of my life as well. For example, when I have a game approaching, I try to look at previous tape from the opposing team and dissect every part of each play, so that I may have a leg up on the competition. In college, I am looking for an experience that would challenge both my mind and body to grow, expand, and develop, while being part of a dynamic community that seeks to have a positive impact on their surroundings. As I have gone through high school, a common question that is asked is, “Where do you want to go to college?” My answer has always been tailored to a place where I could be a part of a diverse community who appreciated the idea of improving the world around them, while developing my academic and athletic self.
As far as being an athlete is concerned, I am 18 years old, 190lbs, 6'0”, with a 4.47 seconds 40 yard dash time, pro shuttle 4.09 seconds and squat 335. I have always pushed myself to be better and have tried to inspire my teammates to do the same, demonstrating that we have the greatest success when we work together and push each other towards a common goal. When approached with a difficult situation, I find that if you keep a level head and a clear outlook, you can see a clear path though the issue and find your way to success. I am so very grateful for the opportunities in my life that have allowed me to growth both mentally and athletically, and I really aspire to continue on this journey. I appreciate the time that you have taken to read my personal statement and look forward to hearing from you.
