My dream is to become a college football coach. To prepare myself for this, in college, I plan to take business classes, psychology classes and education classes. I want to major in Sports Management so that I will have a full understanding and background to help me achieve my goal. My strengths on the field are that I read defenses well and can determine which route will be open pre-snap. No matter the sport I've played, every coach has told me that I am very coachable. I listen, learn and study to become a better player. I'm not gun shy and I'm not trigger happy, If I have to throw the ball away, I know when it's the right time, but I'll always first fight for the first down.
It's not only important to be a leader on your team and on the field, but in life. I believe in and enjoy working to help others. I'm involved in my church youth group and we are mission-minded. Every year we work together to improve our church grounds, to help congregation members in need, bring joy to a less fortunate family at Christmas time and go on mission trips. On our mission trips, we work with a local church in the city we travel to as well as organizations such as Habitat for Humanity to help the members of their community rebuild their lives. We do this through stocking pantries, building accessible ramps for those with disabilities, rebuilding flooring in homes so that families can stay in their homes. We paint, do yard work and whatever else is needed. Mission trips are also for building fellowship with Christ and with each other.
As the Vice President of my school's student counsel, I've been able to be a part of additional Leadership Skills training. I've learned that being a leader is not about telling people what to do, but it's listening, learning and considering the big picture. What are good traits of a leader? Determination, courage, being persuasive, having empathy, analyzing the situation and setting a goal. How am I working on becoming a better leader? Every day is a new day to set a goal or to work toward the goals I've already set. I try to lead by example and guide others.
