My name is Kedrick Screen Jr. I am currently a rising senior at Stephenson H.S. When I go to college, my plan is to continue my education in the field of physics and engineering to achieve my life goal of being a mechanical engineer who designs roller coasters. I would also like to study more about business, and own my own business one day. I would be a great candidate for your organization because I am a dependable team player on both sides of the ball, and if you need me to execute I will do as instructed. I have been a captain for every team, and every level I have ever played for from pee-wee to varsity. I live by the mantra "we are only as strong as our weakest link", which has motivated me to not only focus on the team's athletic success, but to make sure everyone is on the same page, not struggling with school, homelife or anything that may hold them back.
I believe I have a unique ability to balance the business of getting-it-done with the emotions that coincide with playing football. I have this because of the schooling I've had so far, especially in Eagle Academy III. Our class were called teams, and if one doesn't succeed, the team doesn't succeed. You have to have some emotions both for the team and for each other. We should experience the wins with the same intensity as a loss. Both experiences should make us a better team, to do better when we fail, and never get lazy just because we won. The same goes for school, and my toughest critic should always be me. I know what I can achieve better than anyone else. I'll know when I could've gotten that A, and if I study like I wanted that A, only then can I expect to get an A, and nothing less. If I half-stepped, and didn't put the necessary work in, then I can only be mad a myself.
My father dedicated his life to coaching youth both on the football field and with their life. He expected me to be both an athlete and a scholar. He said that good field vision isn't limited to the football field. Good field vision should be used at all times. You can start out with the intention of executing a particular play, but when your opponent makes it difficult or impossible to complete the play, you need to look further out to see if there's something else that can be done to complete the play and convert that goal. He passed away September 2015, and that definitely changed the game for me. But I intend to keep looking down the field to see which way I need to go to reach my goals, both to honor my dad's memory, and to be an example to my younger siblings, and eventually give back the way my parents have.
Sincerely,
Kedrick Screen Jr.
