Personal Statement
Academics and athletics have always been an important part of my life. I have succeeded in the classroom, excelled on the field, and contributed to my community. I am excited to find a college that has a high standard of academics and athletics and enables me to achieve in both.
With the encouragement of my parents, I have a love of learning and a desire to excel in the classroom. I have pushed myself by taking challenging Advanced Placement and Honors courses and have maintained above 4.0 Grade Point Average. Every year I have been recognized for academic achievement in school and in the football program, such as the student-athlete award for football.
Since I began playing football in 8th grade, it has been one of my true passions in life. From the competition, the physicality, and the bonds that it creates: I love it all. Four areas that I excel in are coachability, work ethic, as a teammate and on-the-field attributes. I can take criticism, tips, and advice from coaches and translate it into my play. Next, I work hard all the time, from off-season workouts to giving it all on every play, practice or game. During the spring season, I am an excellent sprinter on the track team, running an 11.00 in the 100 meter dash, a school record. As a teammate, I always push others and try to bring out the best in them. On the field, I have the speed to separate from defensive backs, I run quality routes and I love to play physically. I also play special teams: returning kicks, playing gunner and kicking, hence broadening my abilities. I am also open to playing any position. When playing, I draw inspiration from wide receiver A.J. Green and his blue-collar mentality. Despite his obvious talent, he remains very humble and dedicates himself to work hard and get better. I try to emulate that philosophy. I want to be the best player I can be. Playing football at the next level will keep my dream of playing football going.
I also enjoy being an active member of my community through two of the clubs I participate in. One is Leo Club, an affiliate of Lions Club, which provides service around the community, such as helping at senior centers and elementary afterschool programs. The other is Project Unify, in which I practice and partner with Special Olympic athletes from my high school and create bonds and friendships with them. It feels good to be able to give back to the community of Hilo.
College is the next step in my journey in life, academics, and sports. I look forward to finding a school that will help me fulfill that journey and help me excel in those areas.
Thank You,
Lukas Kuipers
