Personal Statement
My name is Christopher (Chris) Wilford. I am a junior at Downers Grove North High School in Downers Grove, Illinois. First and foremost I love sports, especially football, and I love to compete as part of a team. I am willing to play wherever my coaches believe I can have the most impact. I was the starting quarterback and starting defensive end my freshman year, I also started at corner, linebacker and played at multiple positions on the defensive line throughout the season. Sophomore year I was starting quarterback and starting defensive end. As a rising junior, I am currently starting on the varsity team as tight end. I also played on the freshman and sophomore baseball teams (outfielder) and ran the 4x400m relay, 4x100m relay, 50m, 200m and competed in long jump during winter track as a freshman.
I would like to attend a college or university that allows an athlete to be a scholar and a scholar to be an athlete. I want to play football in a competitive environment but it is also important to me to attend a school with a strong and diverse academic program. I have straight A’s and am in the top 2% (1/540) of my class taking a multitude of AP and honors classes, I play cello in the school’s symphonic orchestra, and am a member of the Investment Club. I am also a Life Scout, member of the Order of the Arrow and working on my Eagle Scout project.
I enjoy being part of a team and working together in pursuit of a common goal. I believe that my contributions, although often singular – a competed pass, whether I threw it or caught it or a well-placed block– are more important if they help the team win rather than if they look good on a highlight reel.
