My name is Carlos Alberto Castillo III, I am 16 and will turn 17 before entering my senior year at West Leyden High School. I am best known as the gentle giant as my mother would call me.
It was hard growing up having a speech delay and having to attend speech classes through elementary school. My last year in elementary school my mother moved and I had to graduate making a few friends from a new school in 8th grade. Once I entered high school I had a lot of peer pressure but I dedicated myself to Football and my school work. I made new friends and focused on my goals.
My Sophomore & Junior year I also wrestled. Lastly my junior year I joined track and field as well, all in effort to accomplish my goal to play college football. Playing sports has provided me with visualizing my goal, my teammates as well as my coaches and the experiences I have lived throughout my three years at West Leyden have built up my confidence and determination not only in sports but also academically.
I have spent many hours after school on weekend during the summer practicing and becoming more in tuned to what is needed to be successful in football along with continuing to take honor courses through my high school tenure.
My mother and Father support me because they understand how important my education and football are. I discovered that I had finally found something I was passionate about. I finally knew what I wanted to do with my life, and I want ot play college football and evaluate a medical or engineer career field. I have a group of friends that have pushed me through my three years and will continue to do so and look forward to this type of team environment in college. With acceptance into college with a Division I football team, though, I could go even further toward realizing my dream.
