Personal Statement

Football -

I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Frankie Zumbo and I was a major part of  The 8th grade National Championship team AYF Monroe Lions. We won 4 atraight Candlewood Valley League Championship in 5 consecutive appearances as well as 3-peating our last 8th grade season as well and winning the AYF CT State Championship, Regional’s and National Championships in 8th grade1st runner up.  We were also 7th grade National Champs as well as The 6th grade1st runner up with 3 straight December appearances in the AYF National Championships All-American Unlimited Weight division in Orlando, Florida. I'm a Junior and TEAM CAPTAIN at Notre Dame High School -Fairfield CT starting Varsity FB/RB/MLB as well as long snapper for punts. Was originally snapping for PAT’S but was moved to place holder and as well as long snapper for punts was discovered for PAT’S/FG’s etc. Both Offense as FB/RB as well as starting MLB position. I have very good speed but noted more for very quick feet in the hole with bursts of speed and power grinding out those tough yards between tackles..  I am also a multi-purpose back with very good hands out of the backfield and possess a cannon arm. Most of the 724 yards gained this year  as a FB worker Mike Allstot/ John Riggins prototype blocking fullback.  I have been called a HYBRID  type player not common and valuable player to have on any team. I will run up the gut consistently turn a 1-2 yard gain into 4-5 yard gain because of my quick feet, vision and strong leg drive. I do have game films to show if needed.  I stand about 5’9 ½” 208 lbs muscular thick Frame yet very agile, quick feet and very powerful.  Also named Team Captain this year as junior for Notre Dame Fairfield Football team playing under Coach Rico Brogna 2011/12 season receiving All- Conference 1ST Team Honors while playing both ways as well as Special Teams Long Snapper leading county in tackles while Most yards gained as a Fullback in State. Playing under Coach Rico Brogna who is a former MLB Player, now Pro Scout for D'RAYS.

I am considered to be a throwback  3 sport Top Athlete which is very unique in this time and age of specialization in that I am  versatile in all three 3 sports Football, Baseball and Ice Hockey and has been seasoned through is hard work, power and natural abilities since a young boy.  Basically, it would be a decision to choose based on  best opportunities that may arise playing Multiple sports gaining college exposure.

I have played Varsity on all three teams Freshman year starting midway through the season for both Varsity Ice Hockey and baseball thus earning Varsity playing time.

It was stated that*Frankie quickly became the top player and termed the leader of the Varsity Football team as a sophomore last year and earned  MAX PREPS player of the week 3 of the last 5 weeks and was named Captain in his Junior year leading Fairfield County in Tackles with 144 in 10 games as well as gaining 724 yards as a full back most yards gained in the entire state. He also made All-Conference 1ST Team SWC as a middle linebacker.  Nickname "Frankie" I go both ways as well as being a on special teams as a long snapper for punts and extra points too. There was a article “A Quiet but Brilliant Season” Notre Dame's Frank Zumbo led Fairfield County in tackles. In the Westport and Fairfield Minuteman Newspaper on 1/4/12. If you googleyou can view article below.

Baseball -  I believe that I can compete basically at any level and at D1 Status if the opportunity is presented.  As a Pitcher I'm throwing in mid 80's as a Bulldog on the mound.  I am a Very gritty and strong grinder type of player. I just turned 17yrs old, and a Junior Standout Player in 3 sports at Notre Dame Catholic High School- Fairfield,CT.  Standing tall on the mound and throws completely over the top with very high velocity low to mid 80’s but with allot of downward movement and late action on the ball (Throws a Very heavy ball if you know what I mean)  Also has a very good repertoire possessing a sharpe curve and a change up as well as fork ball thrown only when needed a change of pace with very little or no spin and knuckles as a dropping ball. He also overpowers batters with the 80+ fast ball. This year as a Junior led the SWC conference and in Top 3 in 8 categories in State in Hitting as well as Pitching and defense fielding percentage. receiving All- Conference 1ST Team Honors

I have in the past and over years usually Averages 1-2 strikeouts per innings of work..  .

STATS on MAX PREPS indicate that was leading in many categories as a pitcher, Switch Hitting Outfelder and Multipurpose Infielder at Shortstop and playing 3RD BASE  Basically moved to Right field and Left Field because of Athleticism as well as being told that the move was because of possessing a Cannon arm. Have adapted very well through his Junior year through the present18U AAU season becoming a very solid Left fielder who switch hitter with Gap power from both sides of the plate and good speed.

Hockey -grinder type/play maker very team oriented player Hockey player..works hard, back checks well, hits very hard Can be the enforcer type if needed.  Its called having controlled aggression with  mental toughness and possess intangibles that cannot be taught as being a complete team player. Drives very hard to the net and works the corners and cycles well. Have a hard quick wrist shot with occasional hybrid sneaky snap/slap shot. Usually scores more as season progresses..selfless and very team oriented.  Skates very well hard, quick feet, transitions well, plays Center, LW & sometimes Defense if needed.  He has a very hard work ethic way since the age of 7/8 from starting from Travel B to A level player over the last 5 years  playing Tier I played AAA hockey for the CT Clippers "94" Bantam Majors 2 years ago as well as last season with The 16U AAA Hartford Jr.Wolfpack of the Atlantic League last season playing ½ season before moving on to Varsity High School Hockey as freshman starter with Notre Dame High School – Fairfield.

Named Team Captain this year as junior of the Notre Dame Fairfield Varsity Hockey team recently chosen for Newspaper/Video interview on 1/19/12 Marty Roos departure.

I am currently thinking of majoring in field Sports Medicine. I believe that the D1-A or  D2 or D 3 level is very compatible considering whichever sports chosen or multiple sports can be accomplished based on my experience, athletic and my educational background, I am very versitile and would consider institutions at various levels as I believe I am a Team player and difference maker on and off  the field and classroom. as I have been considered to be 3 Sport Elite Student-Athlete and veruy adaptable as well.
