Personal Statement

Parents pushing me in the classroom! (The Student)

It is tough sometimes being the son of a high school teacher (father) and a cytotechnologist (mother) who seems not to miss a beat when it comes to the classroom.  I have always been an honor student and have always earned a GPA of 3.0 or better from kindergarten until the present.  In my junior year I will work to be inducted into the National Honor Society.  My parents always stress the importance of education over any sport or extracurricular activity.  Ever since I took my first math class in elementary school, math became my favorite course which was strange because I love to read.  One day in 6th grade on my way to football practice my dad asks me what I want to do besides play football when you grow up.  My response was a question!  Dad who is the person who came up with the idea of building a tunnel under water that we drive through when we go to Norfolk, Va...  He said those people are called engineers.  I responded by saying when I retire from the NFL I will become an engineer.  My interest in engineering was motivated by my curiosity. Questions such as “How do they know what are the best materials to build houses with?”  I continue focus on my studies so that one day I will have the answers to all my questions.

Parents pushing me on the field! (The Athlete)

I have been playing football since I was six years old.  Flag football for Glenarden Boys and Girls Club in Prince George's County Maryland the home of great athletes who have gone on to play in college and NFL.  Since I first stepped on the field, I have aspired to play at the collegiate level. I know that playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life.  I am always working to improve my skills as well as training to get bigger, faster and stronger. I am a positive person and always work to lead by example to my teammates.  I’m very coachable and will surely be one of the hardest working players and one of the hardest working recruits you’ll find.  I would like to be a part of a college program that will push me in the classroom and on the field.  In order to grow into a great man who can one day serve as a role model and good citizen who will make my parents and community proud.

My vision of being a college football player!

I see my college years as my first step into adulthood and personal growth is a must.  My goal is to pursue a degree in some form of engineering while making an impact on my team as a dynamic and explosive football player with a positive attitude.  As I grow both physically and mentally throughout my college football career.  Lastly, I will conduct myself with honor and respect on and off the field, knowing that the way I carry myself reflects my family, team, coaches and the university.
