Personal Statement
Football, for me, is more than just a game and for those that think that it is, they have never played a sport or follow one closely and don’t understand the emotion behind the game. Football is all about momentum. As the great Vince Lombardi said, “Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.” Everyone in life has his or her ups and downs and nothing in this world is perfect. At some point in life, hardships begin to occur and that’s when the real test begins. Some people rise up and try their absolute best to take a stand against the challenge. In my life, I have had a lot more ups and downs than most of the kids my age. My family was turned upside down at a young age. I turned to football to cope. I became a better person, a more disciplined player and a stand out athlete because of all of the adversity in my life. I have the game, my and my teammates to thank. They saved me with their tough love and through our blood, sweat and tears on the field.
I look forward to the next venture in my life. I look forward to college. I want the experience of starting new again, this time stronger mentally and physically that when I started in Mashpee. I want the experience of proving myself to a new group of teammates. I want the experience of meeting new people and developing the relationships that will hopefully follow through with me and support me in my adult life. In Mashpee I was a Student-Athlete. In college, I want to become a Student-Football Player- Role Model and Mentor.
