“There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living” (Nelson Mandela). I have goals. I have dreamt of playing collegiate football since my pee wee season. I love this game and I plan to study for a degree in a sports related field. Ultimately, I aspire to play in the NFL and coach.
My hard work in school has paid off this year with a GPA of 3.2. I have really enjoyed my high school experience so far and I push myself as hard in the classroom as I do on the football field. Over the last three years, I have had the amazing opportunity to be trained in and play several different positions for my team. These include tight end, full back, running back, punter, kick off, middle linebacker and defensive end. This past season I played defensive tackle and full house power back. I have played both offense and defense. I have been a member of special teams. I have three consecutive middle school state championships! As a freshman my team was undefeated. As a sophomore, my first year as a varsity starter, was notable with a record of 8-2. This past season our record was 10-2. Each high school season I have looked forward to experiencing new positions and plays while refining my technique. This has made me a very versatile player. This year I expect to play both sides of the ball and I anticipate a State Championship game in our future.
I train year-round to increase my athletic ability and maintain good health. I am a three season athlete - football, indoor track and outdoor track. I train and compete both in my home state of Maine and out of it. I know that I will only reach my goal of playing collegiate football if I am able to compete in a national forum. My middle and high school coaches, New York Giants summer camp coaches and Football University have all prepared me to compete as both a running back and defensive nose tackle in the Top Gun Showcase two consecutive years. I am proud to be a leader both on and off the football field.
I am committed to Boy Scouting and have earned my Eagle Award. Volunteering is an integral part of scouting and I have adopted this value as my own. I frequently bake for the disabled and have coached shot put for younger kids for several seasons. I have been a Scout as long as I have been playing football. Both experiences have taught me about hard work, determination, community, leadership and brotherhood; all qualities that I bring to the field. I was honored to represent my school this year at the Southern Maine Athletic Association’s Leadership Conference.
The right college for me is one where I will be developed both as a football player and a student. I want to be part of the collegiate sports arena where I will bring my absolute best every single time I step on to the field.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I appreciate it.
