Personal Statement

I started playing football in 3rd grade and have always been a lineman playing on both sides of the ball. Grand Ledge is a Division 1 High School. I am a 3 year varsity starter, having played on both sides of the ball.  My primary starting position last season (2014) and this season (2015) was defensive tackle/nose guard. Prior to that I was primarily on the OL as guard or center. In 2014 I recieved that NUC Award for best lineman.

 The 2015  season went great. We went 12-1 and were the Confernce, District and Regional Champions.  Sadly we suffered our only loss at the State semi-finals playoff game to the team that won the State Title! I was a main contributor on our defensive line and got double and triple teamed every game. In 2014 and 2015 I was unanimously awarded All-Conference Team Defensive Tackle. I also received All-League Honorable Mention DT. In 2015 I made it to the 92.1 Prep Rally All Area Team for DT. I also was a D-Zone Finalist for the 2015 All-Michigan Team.

I am an accomplished multi-sport athlete. During the off season I am the varsity heavy A weight wrestler and  team captain for the Grand Ledge Wrestling Team. I am an  All-State Wrestler and currently power ranked in the top 5 Heavy weights  from all divisions In the state. I have accomplished significant goals:

  • 2015 & 2016 CAAC Blue Conference Heavy Weight Champion;
  • 2015 & 2016 MHSSA Division 1 District Heavy Weight Champion;
  • 2015 & 2016 MHSSA D1 Regional Heavy Weight Champion;
  • 2015 & 2016 2x MHSSA - ALL-STATE - D1 Heavy Weight
  • Regional Dream Team - 1st Team
  • 2016 CAAC Blue Heavy Weight Champion;
  • 2104 Regional Qualifier;

I will bring the same tenacity and team dedication to the football field as I do the wrestling mat!

I know how to balance athletics and still excel academically while participating in other extracurricular activities as follows:

  • Honor Roll (2012-2015);
  • National Honor Society (3.82 GPA);
  • Academic All-Conference Award in Football and Wrestling (2012-2016);
  • Earned and Awarded Eagle Scout;
  • Member of DECA

I want to attend a great academic institution and I am ready to take it too the next level and appreciate your consideration!

Matthew V. Lloyd
