Personal Statement
Along with playing for a highly competitive football program, I am looking for a school that will push me academically and provide me with the most opportunities to pursue a successful career after college.
I play for one of the most competitive and successful high school football programs in the state of Michigan (ranked 7th all-time among all MHSAA teams.) St. Francis has three alumni that are currently playing in the NFL, several that are in starting roles at the Division I level and historically graduates Division I, II, and III players every year. St. Francis football teams have won six state championships and the program has recently surpassed its 500th win (2018).
I started my entire junior season on the Varsity squad and earned quality experience as we made it all the way to the regional final. I played virtually every snap on offense as the starting center and long-snapper, where my reliability, steadiness, blocking and leadership skills were key contributors to my team’s success. As defensive end and special teams’ member, my speed, strength and tackling ability helped support a perennially staunch defense. As a junior, I earned Honorable Mention for All-Conference for the Lake Michigan Conference.
My St. Francis coaches selected me as the winner of the Paul C. Mocere Memorial Student Athlete Trophy at our recent football banquet, which is presented annually to the player who achieves the highest level of academic performance. Mid-way through my junior year, I am maintaining over a 4.0 cumulative GPA with a healthy load of AP courses and recently scored a 32 on the ACT, which I am committed to improving.
I have always had a drive to compete and win in every sport in which I have participated. I played football, basketball (varsity as a sophomore) and baseball in my first 2 years of high school and I am now entering my second year of varsity basketball as a junior.
I look to carry my drive, desire, work ethic and leadership into my college career. I have witnessed teammates go on to achieve success in collegiate programs, and I practice and compete daily with athletes that will go on to perform at the highest levels of football competition. I believe that I can make a valuable contribution to any collegiate team that provides me with the opportunity to compete.
Throughout my Catholic grade school, middle school and high school education at St. Francis, I have been taught to constantly pursue the three C's: character, commitment, and compassion. As the third of nine children in my family I am also very familiar with responsibility and accountability. I will continue to pursue, develop and share these attributes during my collegiate career.
