Personal Statement
I am Jonathan Dellinger but go by JD. I am a former national level soccer player turned kicker. I started kicking in May 2013 after watching a YouTube video on "how to kick a football" and I took my then one football to the neighborhood middle school and made my first 25 yard attempt. From there, I was hooked. I was fortunate to be evaluated and to start training with Dan Orner, a former college and NFL kicker. I worked on kicking fundamentals that summer with Coach Orner and Coach Larry Rogers, my high school special teams coach, achieving my goal of becoming the varsity starting place kicker at Charlotte County Day School (“CCDS”) as a sophomore.
CCDS is a highly regarded college preparatory private school that I have had the privilege of attending since junior kindergarten. The school’s mission is “to create a dynamic, comprehensive educational experience that cultivates a student’s intellectual, social, physical, emotional, and creative qualities;” traits necessary for achieving academic success at the college level and traits intrinsic in the best kickers. CCDS has a history of graduating next level successful kickers including, a former NFL kicker and three kickers currently playing and starting at the Division I level. My immediate goal is to be the next collegiate kicker from CCDS at a school that best fits my educational and athletic ambitions.
My profile contains my academic record, kicking stats (e.g., ranked # 8 nationally and a 5 star rating by Chris Sailer Kicking), kicking awards (e.g.,1st Team, All-State), and my video highlights displaying my current and increasing kicking abilities (including a 57 yard field goal this season). But stats are only part of who I am as a student and as a kicker. Beyond my stats, you will find a dedicated student in the craft of kicking, a team player, a leader, and an overall athlete driven to succeed and improve, whether academically or on the field. I also believe that God has a purpose for me and knowing this, centers me. I have played in national and regional championship title games, in sudden death situations, and even internationally, and in each situation, arose to the occasion. Because of these experiences, I fully recognize the importance of hard work, perseverance, and that practice leads to success. I am always working to improve and I have come to realize that I am not satisfied with the status quo.
I look forward to the opportunity to continue my kicking pursuits at the next level and if recruited, I will positively represent the school both academically and athletically. Thank you for taking the time to view my profile.
