Personal Statement
Friends and family ask me why I want to go to college and participate in a collegiate football program. The game of football offers a high level of competition and demands dedication; much like life. My name is Marshall Simmons, I am sixteen (16) years old and currently the starting Varsity Long Snapper for Charlotte Country Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. I began my football career seven (7) years ago playing in Pop Warner; an experience that laid a solid foundation for the game. As I grew physically and mentally, I honed my focus to a fine point and decided that being a Long Snapper was the highest and best use of my talents; a position singularly focused on a defined set of skills. I committed myself to off-season training, a personal coach (Marc Yerry, Oklahoma State) and attending position specific camps. Being a collegiate athlete provides an opportunity to be part of something much bigger than one sport. A collegiate athlete learns valuable life lessons such as time management, team, commitment, respect, integrity, dedication and being humble; traits that can benefit an individual in their respective future career and life .
School is an important piece of my overall development. I have been fortunate to attend a college prep school that is continually recognized for its academic achievements and curriculum. The school demands much in terms of academics and time management. I feel I will be very well prepared for the next level in college based on the aforementioned; many past graduates have indicated that they were far better prepared than many of their peers citing Charlotte Country Day and its ability to prepare students. I am currently taking classes to prepare for the SAT/ACT to ensure that I get the highest and best score possible. I concurrently utilize a tutor and have been successful in elevating my GPA; a goal that will continue over the coming months.
Based on my strong personal character, work ethic and desire to improve, I will be a strong asset to any collegiate team that would give me an opportunity. I will represent the college with the highest level of integrity and class. I am confident my current coach and teammates would echo the aforementioned. If you believe in me and my abilities, your commitment will repaid ten-fold. Thank you for your consideration.
