Personal Statement
I'm Laurence Fogg a senior defense end/outside linebacker with Hillside High Hornets in Durham, NC and I love the game of football. From the strenuous practices during pouring cold and windy weather to the overwhelming adrenalin rush felt after a big win - football has been a big part of my life.
My first experience with football began ten years ago as an eight year old boy with a Pop Warner team called the Durham Eagles. My mother and uncle signed me up with the team as a way to keep my weekends occupied and avoid the temptation of "trouble in the streets." My first position was Center. I quickly learned the game and faithfully followed the coaching of my older cousin to improve my skills. The most memorable moment was when I made my first successful tackle. Wow - It was as though everything I'd been working for had finally come together and I felt validated as a true football player.
Soon after, I became a student athlete and learned that it was not only my responsibility to show respect to my team members; but also to other studens in my school, who viewed us as a represnetation of the school. This pride stayed within me as I believe that athletes are to be an example to those around them, to show our peers that you can excel both academically and physically.
I look forward to the day when I have reached a level of success that allows me to give back to my school. My first goal would to improve the schools' building and construction, repair damages, and offer scholarships to those who may have financial difficulties but have a love and drive for the game.
My desire is to play at the collegiate level. This would give me the chance to continue performing in the game that I love while learning from other talented athletes who share in my passion. As a dedicated worker, I strive to give my best in all things. As a college student, I'd commit to my studies, my growth as a moralistic person, and the game of football.
