Personal Statement
I feel that I am deceptively quick for a center, while still stronger than most I face. I try to excel in all areas of my life and feel that academic focus does indeed spill over into the athletic arena. When the adrenaline rush has subsided, it's that same focus that separates the winners from the losers. I also feel that I can handle adversity and disappointment pretty well. Case in point: In 9th grade I did not make the basketball team after being top scorer, top rebounder, and MVP of my middle school. Although EXTREMELY disappointed, I decided, at my football coach's suggestion, to wrestle. That season I was 3-13, pretty dreadful! Now, in only my second season of organized wrestling, I am the Southeastern Conference Champion and Robeson County champion in wrestling at 220lbs, and went undefeated in my conference! THAT TYPE OF EVENT SERVES TO TEMPER YOUR RESOLVE, AND BLEEDS OVER INTO ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR LIFE. I am thankful that I could be a part of it, and that my coach cared enough to suggest it. The confidence I gained this year knowing that hard work really does yield results will serve me well in the coming football season. I can't wait!
Academically, I am #7 out of 535 and hope to move up this year while still taking the toughest courses possible to prepare for the college level. I think the above makes me a good candidate for any team......but the biggest reason I would be a smart choice is because my team ALWAYS comes first.
Thank you,
Jesse Oliver
