Personal Statement
My story is unique. I am a 6’2, 200 pound senior receiver (sometimes TE). In my first seven games of this year, I have had 30 catches for 609 yards with 8 TD’s on a mostly run oriented team that lost our starting QB the second game of the season.
My story is different than most as during my freshman year I was out of football the whole season due to a torn hamstring. At the end of my freshman year, I started getting heavily involved in track and field and joined a track club that encouraged me to quit football and basketball to focus strictly on track. Although I excelled in track, winning multiple 1st place titles in High Jump, I missed the other sports, returning to basketball my junior year. This year I knew I had to go back to participating in what I loved most - football. I am thankful to have had a good season so far playing Wide Receiver, Tight End and the new position of Defensive End. It feels more than good to be back and I have enjoyed every second, dedicating my time before and after practices to getting stronger and perfecting my routes.
Currently, I am a D-1 recruit for the Decathlon/Jumps to a number of Division-I universities. But as I have gone to recruiting visits for track, each time I have left feeling I am being recruited for the wrong sport. I have had other D-1 athletes ask me if I have considered football. Everything has led me back to football and the desire to fulfill my childhood dream of being a college football player. I believe I have the talent and athletic ability to be a successful player and I know, without a doubt, football is where I belong.
In all aspects of my life, from athletics to academics, I have always been competitive and wanted to do my best. I do know that I cannot always succeed and failure is only a lesson that makes one a stronger person on and off competition. Feeling I would be a great asset to the team not only as a team member but as a teammate, I try to be an encouraging person that just wants to see the team succeed and will help any of my teammates in any way I can. Feeling I am different from most, I compete against myself first and others second. In academics, I work hard and always attempt to do my best, even in more challenging subjects. I also know that no one should get discouraged because they are not at the same level as someone else academically. If a person does the absolute best they can, they are succeeding. Striving for excellence while also keeping balanced in all aspects of life is one of the most important characteristics one can bring to a team and these are what I am always working towards.
In the end, I am looking for a coach that recognizes what I have already done in my first year back, one that will consider my overall athletic talent and ability and give me the chance to use the God-given gifts I believe I have been given, not only to "jump" but to "catch" and to "run" and to then be a part of a successful college football program.
