Hello,
My name is Matthew Costelow. I am a senior at the home of the Spartans, at Steinert High School in Hamilton, NJ. I have played football all four years of high school and started as a varsity football player since my sophomore year. I mainly play on the offensive line, at left tackle. In addition, I have experience at every position on the defensive line. My goal is to continue my successful and fundamentally solid football career at the college level and to complete the next level of my education to have a fulfilling career and dynamic life. I am a powerful, committed player and a self-motivated student who centers my full effort to complete whatever the task at hand is.
When I am not on the football field, I am still very productive in a variety of ways. For example, I spend a vast amount of hours in the weight room to consistently improve my strength. My efforts have paid off because I have been invited, for the past three years, to the county Strong Man Competition. I also contribute my time to volunteering and giving back to the community. One such volunteering event is assisting to serve food to the homeless at the local soup kitchen. Another event is volunteering at the Special Olympics where I judged multiple events for the athletes. This past summer, I volunteered at a youth football camp. I was an assistant coach where I helped teach and demonstrate to lineman attendees the basics of football, as well as the different steps needed to block. I also help set up the Ryan's Quest marathon race, a local fundraiser for Duchienne Muscular Dystrophy. For me, helping people gives me a sense of self-fulfillment, knowing I have made a difference.
I am a very hard working, dedicated student- athlete who's value shines on and off the football field. I will selflessly go where I am needed for my team to achieve a win. While playing football for my high school, I have grown physically and mentally. I am looking forward to playing football at the college level and building on that solid foundation. I am also looking forward to growing as a person and to being a dedicated, upstanding member of my community, both on and off the field.
