“I am the me, I choose to be”, is a quote made by Sidney Pointier. Although, I’m far removed from Mr. Pointier Era, I can relate to the quote. I constantly remind myself at 16 years old that the choices I make in life mold me into the me, I am. Every day I choose to be a young man of character because this is what was instilled in me as a young child. I must say, it is very difficult at times to stay the course, but when I reflect on the person that I want to be, it helps me to readjust.
I remind myself of this quote when I am on the football field. The passion I have for the sport of football transcends into something supernatural when I am on the field. Nothing else matters. I envision the running back that I want to be, not necessarily the running back that I am now because there is always room for improvement at different stages of the game. I choose to play the game with passion and tenacity whether we are winning or losing as a team. I try to work extra after practice so i can enhance my game, position and be a better teammate.
I am also a leader off the field. I am involved in a non -profit organization, KinderSmile Foundation. I sit on the Jr. board of this organization. I have been a treasurer since 2009. My role as a leader in the community involves fundraising for KinderSmile to purchase dental supplies, school supplies and lightly used clothing to disadvantaged children here in the state of New Jersey as well as developing third world countries. I have traveled abroad to Haiti to assist the organization in providing free dental services to children at Grace International Orphanage. Becoming an ambassador of community service is very important to me and my development as a young man. I enjoy interacting and teaching young children the importance of taking good care of the teeth.
I am the me ,I choose to be, in the classroom as well. I must admit there are times I am not stimulated by the subject or the class, but I try to focus on the bigger picture most of the times. My favorite subjects are Theology, French and Math. I like the challenge in Math. French comes naturally to me and I would to continue French in college. The discipline that I have to succeed in football on any level , my efforts to stay focus academically, and the passion I exude are all entities of the me, I choose to be.
