Christian Smith '11 Recruiting Profile

Since an early age I have been privileged to compete at high level sports. In 6th grade I was a part of a flight 1 northeastern region champion soccer team. From 5th grade to 9th grade I played on Governor Richard Codey's all star basketball team. Now i am playing varsity basketball at my highly competitive group 4 high school. In recent years I have turned my attention to football. As a freshman I played every down as quarterback and was the kicker for the freshman and sophomore teams, as well as punting in the final game for the varsity. Sophomore year I was the starting kicker and punter for varsity, and quarterbacked every down for the sophomore and JV teams. As a junior i am sharing time at quarterback with a very gifted senior in the newly created Super Essex Conference, comprised of the best 8 football programs in Essex County New Jersey. The New Jersey Star Ledger named me as one of it's football heroes of the week for my performance against Bloomfield high school, when I passed for 136 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 73 yards and a touchdown. I have witnessed the accomplishments of my brother Caleb, who is the starting tight-end at Yale University. I have a hunger for success and a desire to study and play at a great university. I am not only interested in my success as an individual, but also want to be a leader on a team that has success. I am proud of my skills as a leader. My father is the pastor of a dynamic non-denominational church and has an expertise in leadership. My siblings and I have been inculcated in leadership theory and practice all of our lives. Leadership is very important to me. I am 6'4 and growing, athletic enough to play varsity basketball at a group 4 Essex County school, and motivated to work hard in the weight room and towards the continued development of my football skills. I believe that I am just beginning to realize my potential as a football player. I am willing to entertain the possibility of being a part of a great program at an excellent institution of any size and in any part of the United States. I hope to have a great college career and to make a meaningful contribution to a successful football program.
