When I first decided to play football in the 5th grade, I never would have guessed the impact it would have on my life. I thought it would just be an after-school activity but over time, I would meet my teammates, play with them, and learn to love them and the game. Throughout the years my biggest goals have been in line with both excelling in football, and in my academics. I got pulled in for Varsity as early as 8th grade. Before I knew it, I was moving on to the high school level, playing both JV and Varsity back to back games.
Education is vital in my world which is why it is imperative I attend a college that fosters both my love for sports while keeping me in line with my education. As a child, I was active in Tae Kwon Do. Tae Kwon Do eventually brought me to football and I found that both sports keep me grounded mentally so that I can succeed academically. Throughout the years of doing both I’ve learned not only sportsmanship, but also discipline, respect, and patience. Both of these sports have made me stronger in both body and mind. I can confidently say that if I did neither of these sports, I wouldn’t be anything like the person I am today.
I believe everyone on the football team have a role and expectation that they must live up to when they are on a team. To meet those expectations, I try my best to cooperate with everyone and in doing so, I started to want to play not just for myself, but for the team. Overall, I care more about my team than my own stats. I possess the dedication, cooperation, and drive that is needed in an athlete. I am always striving to better myself, and with the skills that I have learned over the years, I am sure I will be able to be a considerable player on any team I will have the privilege of playing on.
