Joseph Messare '16 Recruiting Profile

       My dream would be to get a full scholarship to a D1 college for football. I am currently enrolled in personal training for my speed and strength. Some things that make me unique are that my father has trained me since I was eight years old in martial arts. I take Wing Chun, (the style of martial art that Bruce Lee studied) Krav Maga, and Brazilian Ju Jitsu. I am a black belt in both Wing Chun and Krav Maga. I also run my own small business in lawn care and snow blowing. 

       I have wrestled for four years and done fairly well. My first year I went 14-3 and won every single tournament I entered. The second year I did wrestling I was offered to go to JV but refused because I felt I wasn't ready. That year I went 14-1, I won MVP award, most wins, and most pins. I also won all but one tournament I entered including Brute Empire Nationals. The only one I did not win was Syracuse Nationals. This past season I was on JV and subbed in on varsity whenever anyone 182 or above was injured. I went 18-1 on JV and beat the only Person I lost to in a tournament later that season. I went 8-4 on varsity wrestling 8 out of 12 of those matches at the 220 weight class. I also won JV wrestler of the week as well as Spartan of the week award. This year I am currently 35-7 with 21 pins. I have already recieved wrestler of the week. I also recently placed 8th at Eastern States which is one if not the most competitive competition in New York State. I also won the Class B championships for section two; I took first place at sectionals, and I placed 6th at NYSPHSAA (public highschool) wrestling states and 7th in the federation. I was awarded Varsity rookie of the year award as well as an academic award for y average being in the top ten in my wrestling team (I got this award this year as well). Recently I was awarded the most improved wrestler as well as having the fastest pin on the team. On top of this I was nominated to the DownUnder Sports All State team. My overall record for the season was 45-9. 

        I have played and started in tackle football for eight years mostly as a lineman. But now as I am getting faster also as a power running back and a pulling guard. I am hoping to merge into the positions of MLB and FB. Currently this year I am starting offensive guard and second string middle linebacker. Last year I was also nominated on to Section II All-Stars team ranking me the second best guard in Section II Class A. This past year as a Junior I received the award for first string sectional All-Stars and was nominated by the Times Union as second string team for the capital district. Lastly I was nominated as an honorable mention for a lineman on the All State team. 

- I have played pulling guard, full back, defensive lineman, middle line backer, strong side linebacker, and wing back 

- I am a straight A student and have recently made principals list and aim to do the same this year 

- I was pulled up as a sophomore to start as varsity guard for BHBL a Section II team, (who last year won the NY state title in the A division) in tenth grade

- I have a recommendation from my assemblyman Ted Tedisco

- I was selected to go to Boys State

- I'm in the process of getting into National Honnor society
