Personal Statement

My motto is "Start small and end big, with each failure you rise to only learn how to win!" I  have been playing football, wrestling, track since 7th grade...I have played T/E, O-tackle, D-tackle, O- guard, center, mid line backer, D- end, O-WR, outside LB, FB, TB and RB..I started football in 7th grade to help my social skills due to having Aspergers, but football became a real passion. Now as a Senior, on varsity team. being captain, my coaches will tell you how dedicated/focused I am at my football career...I look forward to college academics, football and one day to work hard enough to go to the NFL...I began wrestling and track, have done well in those two sports as well as making me a better football player. I have also won many medals/awards in wrestling and track. I'm very proud of my career, wrestling and track. 40 yard dash got it to 4.6, still working on making it better...I also will work on my strengths but also work on my weaknesses with coaches after practice..I have no problem asking them to help me or ask them what I need to do to be a better player in all three sports...I got a late start in my sporting career due to my younger brothers medical disabilities so I know I have to work harder, give even more to show just how dedicated I am for my coaches and teammates...I am also aspiring to be a good role model for other children who also have Aspergers, to show just how much sports are a good influence as well as a way they can deal with life issues, learn how to socialize better, besides realizing that sports are a great self esteem builder...I am learning how to utilize my time in academics as well as working with teachers like I do the coaches...I have also started a part-time job on the weekends...I would be a great recruit for the dedication, stability, focus and team leadership I have earned in high school and look forward to working on the college level also...I have aspirations of getting into engineering as math and science are strengths....I know as an all around athlete I have much to offer college football as well as wrestling and track...This year I am ending my career in wrestling having gone to sectionals for 195 lb, then to districts at 195 lb weight class being in a class of wrestlers I am glad I  wrestled as I ended my career with 133 wins in high school. I want to be a mentor for young wrestlers in the future! I received The United States Marine Corps Most Distinguished Athlete Award and from my high school received the award for the athlete distinguished for playing all four years consistently in football, wrestling and track 2012-2016, and look forward to college football now and becoming quicker, faster, stronger, smarter, but most of all happier at doing what I want in college academically and in athletics.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Wilmington Division II Wrestling Tournament
  • 2/26/16 to 2/27/16
  • Washington Blue Lions sent seven to the Wilmington Division II Wrestling Tournament...Steven Willis was sent for the 195 lb, he lost his first match which he went up against the #1 seed (#1 in state Jack Harris) and lost but it was a match to watch; Steven won his next match and lost the next but leaving his senior career at 35-14 total high school career at over 100 wins...he wrestled tough at sectionals and districts and he wrestled many many tough matches but learned a lot especially when he got to wrestle in districts with the #1 wrestler in the state who did get #1 in state. Steven worked hard to get to this point and he enjoyed sectionals and districts because his weight class was like going to state. These wrestlers are from all over and some of them wrestling is all they do all year long and Steven is proud to be considered a wrestler in their class of 195 lb and has wrestled the best but taught him much about himself and new moves to use in football.
  • Camp/Event
  • Washington Senior High School Wrestling Sectionals
  • 2/19/16 to 2/20/16
  • Washington Senior High School sponsored/hosted the Division II Sectional Wrestling Tournament...Steven Willis placed fifth as alternate for districts but because a competitor lost third and fourth, Steven moved up as a district placer, along with six of his teammates who went on to Wilmington who would be hosting the districts for Division II Wrestling....The Blue Lions placed 3rd as a team and sent seven and two alternates to districts, which is a great accomplishment and Steven Willis was one of them.
  • Camp/Event
  • Ohio State Camp
  • 6/13/15 to 6/13/15
  • Fullback Camp...Speed drills...drills to do everyday before and after practice...short choppy steps for lateral to help move faster...work on short choppy steps for acceleration and when to speed up and slow down...learn to rehold the ball and learn how to receive the ball...do drills for eye coordination and receiving and running and hand eye coordination in running with the ball and catching the ball and tackling....we met all the Ohio State coaches and the most exciting was meeting Urban Myer who said it didn't matter who you were it was the attitude you had, the fire you had inside to play the game and the fire for your team and the game of football. I was selected one of 30 out of 165 athletes to work with Urban Myer and his coaches to work on skills and maneuvers...it was an honor to work with him and his coaching staff...
  • Camp/Event
  • Mount St. Joseph Football Camp
  • 8/16/14 to 8/16/14
  • Multi-Position teaching camp....we learned foot drills, we learned special stretches, learned how to be more flexible, learned a lot on footwork, learned positioning and drills on how to hold and run with the ball, how to handle the ball and how to tackle and run...we also learned a lot about attitude and working on getting better as a team mate and better working as a team...loved this camp and the coaches and meeting all the athletes from all over Ohio...
