Personal Statement
My name is Alexander Musard and I am a Senior year at North Providence High School in Rhode Island. I am 6' 3" and about 260 pounds, carry a 3.95 GPA, and serve as the starting Right Tackle and Defensive Tackle for my high school football team. As captain of the football team, I take pride in setting a good example for those around me. I am a member of VAASA (Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse), and make wise decisions on and off the field. Another way that I get the chance to be a role model is for the peer mentoring program at my school where I have the chance to provide help and guidance for young freshmen as part of the process of acclimating to life in high school. I can be counted on to be a responsible, hardworking young man who thinks about the future on a consistent basis. While I am recognized for my academic accomplishments such as Honor Roll, National Honor Society, Excellence in Biology, and Excellence in Honors American History, I also gained some recognition for football last year. As a Junior, I earned All League Honorable Mention, in addition to All League All Academic Team. This year, as a Senior, not only did I reach the highest level of team success by going undefeated and winning the Super Bowl, but I was also rewarded with First Team All-Division for my efforts on the field as well.
Football is my passion: not just playing the game, but also watching, studying, learning, and overall being a student of the game. I have come a long way through my journey to getting to where I am now as a player. Due to weight restrictions for youth football, I never really got the chance to play organized football until my Freshmen year of high school. When I finally got the opportunity to join my high school team as a Freshmen, I spent that year mostly learning the game, getting the fundamentals down, and working hard to improve each day one step at a time. My progression was staggering, as I improved in all aspects of the game at quite a rapid rate. When an injury struck on the Offensive Line during the middle of my Sophomore season, my coach felt that I was a good enough blocker to convert from Tight End to Offensive Tackle and take over as a Varsity starter. By the following year, I was a two way starter at both Right Tackle and Defensive Tackle, also serving as a front line man on kickoff return where I successfully recovered all onside kicks that were targeted my way. My hands from playing Tight End for JV translated effectively as I am very reliable on kickoff return, with the ability to convert back to Tight End for college if needed. I have position flexibility on both offense and defense, and work to perfect my craft each and every day.
Growing up, I have always kept academics my number one priority, and realize that finding success through playing sports is not always guaranteed. I have maintained excellent grades throughout my schooling, and have known from a young age that I want to go into the medical field to pursue a degree in medicine to ultimately become a cardiovascular surgeon. As a leader who is driven by an endless motor to succeed and become better than I was the day before, I take pride in my work ethic and also for never settling for what I have become, but to always strive to improve and become the best football player and person that I could possibly be.
I do not want to be just a human being to have walked this earth: I want to be a person with an everlasting legacy. Two hundred fifty years from now, I want the world to remember Alexander Musard, the person, just as I would want the world to remember Alexander Musard, the football player.
