Personal Statement
Throughout my life, my family has always been a stable and supportive influence in everything that I do. At a very young age, they allowed me to play several sports and choose which ones I was the most interested in. Because of this, I have played football, baseball, and basketball at the most competitive levels available. From playing quarterback at the #1 6A high school football team in the state of Tennessee, playing high school baseball in the most competitive district in the state of Tennessee, playing summer baseball all over the eastern half of the country, to playing AAU basketball in the nationals in Virginia Beach, my parents have afforded me the opportunities to try to advance my game in whatever athletic realm I chose to pursue. While this has been and continues to be a fantastic avenue to pursue my athletic goals, both of my parents are teachers and have been instrumental in making sure that my academic goals are the most important part of my school years. While balancing these parts of my life are important, my relationship with Jesus Christ is first and foremost.
My father has been a football coach and a baseball coach at Oakland High School since I was three years old. As long as I can remember, I have been around those 2 teams in some capacity. I was the ball boy for the football team almost as soon as I could walk. I have a passion for football that has been there since before I can remember. I have always made it a point to try to learn what every position on the field is supposed to do on every single play. In my mind, being a leader means that I should perfect my craft daily. That means understanding what all 11 players are supposed to do on every snap. I want my teammates to know, without a doubt, that I can help them be successful on every play. Being a leader means understanding that every individual success is a team success. While I do believe that leaders are born, I also believe that it takes work.
Academically, I take all Honors or Advanced Honors courses so that I will be prepared for the college classroom. I want to graduate with at least a 3.0 and I want to make at least a 26 on the ACT. I work on those goals daily. I want to be an asset to whatever university I attend, not only as an athlete, but as a student-athlete. I plan on graduating from my university and entering my field of choice as prepared as I can possibly be.
Whatever university I choose to attend, I want to leave it better than I found it.
