Personal Statement
My Junior year I was playing at center, and honestly a backup at the position. I decided after a couple of weeks
I was going to make the coaches notice me at another position. So I volunteered to play scout team defensive tackle
during last season. I worked hard in practices to help the offense get a good look at the upcoming opponents defensive schemes.
After the season was over my head coach approached me and asked me how I felt about changing sides of the ball. I told him that
I loved playing defense and would work hard at making the transition. Over the winter and spring I worked hard on gaining strength and quickness plus working on getting off the ball and working on drills to make me a better defensive player.
I think this work is paying off this year. I have worked with our new defensive line coach and picked his mind on how I can become a better player.
We have spent many sessions watching video and pointing out what I was doing wrong and what I was doing right. Then taking my strength and weaknesses to the practice field and worked on improving at my new position.
After submitting my recent highlights and having them evaluated, I'm pleased to see the improvements. I went from being rated as a developing player at center, to being rated as Good in most categories and even excellent against the pass.
So you may ask what this means to me. I set goals for this year. I listened to my coaches, I did what was asked to help improve the team. I worked hard during the off season and now it is starting to pay off for me.
I hope to continue to improve at the next level. No matter where that may be. I want to help my next team and gain the knowledge of coaches in college and continue to improve as a player.
I think one thing you will learn from all my coaches is that I'm a team player, and that I am a team leader as well.
