Personal Statement

I go to Johnson High school in San Antonio, Texas where I excel in academics and perform on the athletic field as well. My acheivements in large part, can be attributed to how I have been reared by my parents. They have instilled self-confidence and the desire to do my best no matter if it is on a playing field or in the classroom setting. I have come to realize that it is life, not athletics, that I will be going pro in as I prepare for my life's journey. This in no way takes away from the love I have for the game or the immense thrill I have when I throw a touchdown pass, run for score or share celebrating a game winning effort with my teammates. I have also learned life lessons from the disappointment I feel when I do not make the grade I should on a test, fall short on a project or am not satisified with my final grade in a class. It is the same feeling that I have when I throw an interception, don't rush for the first down or kick a bad punt when my team is depending on me. The desire to work towards and exceed our goal as a team makes me realize that the group accomplishment is greater and more satisifying than the indivdual spotlight. I am 6'2"and weigh 190 pounds. I am one of the fastest players in the school and know that my innate talent is something that I have developed, but is also a gift that I received in life. I believe that through hard work, committment to excellence and a steadfast attitude towards acheiving goals will be the key to my success. It's these traits that will help me in all the things that challenge me in the world of athletics to the hurdles that I will face in the scholastic arena. My character traits that will contribute to your team are leadership, work ethic and the ability to build trusting relationships. I have exhibited these traits as the only junior co-captain on the varsity team this year. These character attributes, I believe were my guiding principles that contributed to my invitation to attend the 2011 US Army Combine. I was extremely proud to represent my school, teammates, parents and myself along with the greater San Antonio football community at this prestigious showcase. I was in wonder that I was the only student athelete selected from the San Antonio metroplex to attend this event. I was also voted second team all-district punter and utility player. I know my teammates contributed to me winning these awards and am very appreciative of their efforts. I carry over the lessons that I learn in the athletic arena to the classroom. This helps to ensure success in both areas. These include committment, dedication, perseverance and the never ending need to exhibit a positive attitude while enduring the hardest and most challenging obstacles. I am a hard worker and know that I will always give it my all. I am open to attending any size school and in most geographic regions. I am interested in electrical engineering, which may not be a surprise since that is my dad's career. Some athletic goals that I have are to make a positive impact on a team, be a leader and create many successes for whatever school I attend.
