Hello, my name is Slaiter VanDertuin and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. First and foremost I am committed to playing football and my goal in life after my playing days are behind me is to transition into coaching and my plan in to major in Physical Education. I thoroughly enjoy the competition, strategies and game planning as well as the entire team effort philosophy and camaraderie of the game. In my High School career I found my strength to be as a defensive player and although my coaches had me play exclusively as a Defensive End, however I believe I can excel as an Outside Linebacker or as a Corner Guard, but our team needed my quickness and speed at the DE position. I'm 5'10" tall, weigh 210 pounds and run the 40 in 4.65 seconds. My coaches called me a "Motor" as I do not stop running, chasing, or pursuing until a play is whistled dead. I am the product of two distinct environments, without one the other would not have been possible. The first environment is the family I grew up in. I am one of 13 children and I was brought up to know that anything you desire requires hard work and dedication. I had all the basics of childhood, but if I REALLY wanted something special I had to work for and earn it. I was brought up to believe I could do anything I set my mind to. When I was four years old I was stricken by Encephalitis, Meningitis and Celebetitus all the same time. Initially it was not known if I would survive the first day, but I did and I am proud of what I have able to accomplish since dedicating myself to the game of football. I tell you this not for sympathy or anything else other than to tell you that I am a survivor and have a compassion for life that others may take for granted. Being from a large family will require that I seek financial assistance in some form if I am to pursue higher education and the opportunity to continue playing football. The second environment that has made me who I am is the football program I was involved with in High School. In my four years of playing for Aledo High School the combined records of the teams I played on was 51 wins and 1 loss. I played my junior and senior years as a starter on the Varsity team and was part of two consecutive Texas State 4A Champion title teams. In my junior year I was selected as a Second Team All District player. In my senior year I was selected by the coaches as Aledo's Most Valuable Defensive Lineman for which I am particularly proud of. I was also selected as an All District first team member, but the selection by my coaches is something very special to me because it came from the people who relied on me and counted on my playing ability. As I said, I am the product of two environments and both of these environments stressed hard work and passion equal success. It is my sincere desire to further my education and playing abilities in college. I am open to any kind of school of higher education and geographic location is not deal breaker, I simply want to do the best I can for a school that needs what I have to offer their school and football program.
