Personal Statement

May 15, 2014

To Whom it May Concern:

My name is Cory Moreno and I am the running backs coach at Chisholm Trail High School in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district. I am writing on behalf of TuKayus Powell. I am pleased to say I am TK’s position coach. TK possesses quite a few positive attributes which make him a valuable member of a team; a few of which I will mention in this letter.

TK has tenacity and is a leader. We opened this school with only freshman and sophomores during TK’s sophomore year and played a full varsity 4A schedule. TK had the growing pains of any sophomore playing up on a varsity roster; however, there was a tremendous amount of responsibility put on TK to be a leader and to play multiple positions. Not only was this an emotional adjustment, because of TK’s age and experience level, he had to learn many new things as to what it took to be, not only a varsity player; but, in how to be a leader at a very early age with no example of other players to follow. We faced many hardships that season; however, TK forged through the season learning valuable lessons that would carry him over to this past season. TK learned he had to be persistent in his desire to continue to get better; but also, he learned being a leader during a losing season of a first year program is a very hard and difficult place and role to be in and have.  TK has blossomed into a very unique and solid young player; now, TK is a veteran of two varsity seasons under his belt.

TuKayus has developed not only with his determined tenacity, as well as his leadership skills, he has learned the unique skill set and God given attributes are rare and he has a responsibility to hone them all and not waste the talents he has been given. Over this last football season, TK has CONTINUALLY worked on the finer points of his game. Through being the coachable young man he is, he has learned his raw talent and speed are only the building blocks for his teams’ successes and failure. He works daily during practice and on his own time with his counterpart running back to get faster, stronger and to push one another to their very best to help each other to be the absolute best they can be for their team. You see, TK does not have the word “me” in his vocabulary. The fact that he is willing to celebrate and encourage another running back in the program speaks to his “BIG” team and “little” me attitude. His desire to become a better TK is contagious as his personal attitude is in and out of school. For, I have had the pleasure to attend church with TK and his family and witness where he gets and has been taught the love for others before his self. It is pervasive and resonates throughout every corner of his life; including football.

In so much as to say TuKayus is a very good football player, is to say water is wet and blood is red. It is more accurate to say TK is more than a football player. For it is true he is a good football player, because of his tenacity, his desire to be a leader, make use of his talents and inspire his teammates to reach their full potential; but, it is TK’s intrinsic motivation and personal integrity to be who he is on and off of the field in which makes TK an outstanding athlete. It is with all I have said, that I highly recommend TuKayus for the National College Scout Association and to any collegiate football program who is interested in him to represent their school and football program.

Respectfully,

Cory Dan Moreno
