My name is Brandon Gearheart, I am a incoming Sr at Lovelady High School; a small 2A school in East Texas. Although we are a small school, our football program has consistently made playoffs for the past 10 years or more. This past year, our team has made it to the state semi finals with a perfect season of 14-1.
I am one of four children and football is how my college education will be paid, thus lessening the financial burden on my family. My dad works out of town and I carry more responsibility at home than most 18 year old boys. I have a job at a local grocery store, I help with my 2 younger siblings, maintain decent grades, and help with maintenance and chores at home. I began playing football in the 7th grade, playing DE and OL. My Freshman year I was placed on JV and would move up to Varsity for special teams. Within the first week of practice my Sophomore year, my Coach moved me to starting Center on Varsity. I was the first Sophmore moved up, soon more moved up for a total of six, which only 3 were starters. Through my years of playing football, I have realized that the OL does not get much recognition. I know that as a team, we, the line have successfully done our job by protecting the QB, making openings for Backs, moving the ball, and ultimately scoring TD's. Weight lifting is a great interest of mine. Our school does not have the funds for a weight lifting program, so any gains I have, I did myself. At the end of my 7th grade year, I weighed 135 lbs, start of 8th I was at 175lbs. I have progressed to 210 lbs end of my Sophomore year.
In addition to football, I am an active member of the Lovelady FFA. This will be my 3rd year on Farm Skills Team, showing Broilers in the County Livestock Show, and Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Additionally, I was 1 of 10 students selected to show a Steer in our annual Steer Show, Spring of 2016 and again in the Spring of 2017. Also, I have been an active member of FCA and the youth group at my church for the past 4 years.
In Closing, Football is my sport, and no other sport can replace it. It's what I love, and what I'm best at. I am a good, quiet student who works hard on and off the field. I am responsible, coachable, and eager to play football past high school.
