Personal Statement

My goal is to make an impact for my college football team. I have a verbal from a Div 1AA team whose 2010 class was ranked #1 by Rivals in Div. 1AA. Recent Awards include: Return Specialist of the Year (2010) in the Superlative Awards for Texas Div 14-5A, #4 in Dist 14-5A for TDs in Div. play; #8/300 in Houston at the Nike Combine (Spring 2009) with 99 SPARQ, #1 in The Woodlands Power Ranking 2010, and named the Best Defensive Player for Texas 5A, Div. 1 (Largest 5A schools) at the 2010 7on7 Texas Statewide Championship Tournament. My team, The Woodlands High School Highlanders, District 14-5A, near Houston, Texas, finished our regular season as District Champs with an undefeated at 10-0. We were ranked 4th in Texas by AP before we lost in the playoffs and ended our season.

2010 Season - I've scored 11 touchdowns, more than any other receiver, this season including a 95-yard kick-off return for a TD against Lufkin on Oct. 8, (ranked 7th in Texas), a 66-yard punt return for a TD against Kingwood and the winning TD during double overtime during our Sept. 3 game against Hightower. I was named Player of the Week for all three of those games.

Jeremy McGrail, president and editor-in-chief, 5A Texas Football said "Senior WR Max Ward was the surprise for me. He's got wheels. Very good player," in his post after the Lufkin game. In 2009, I was the only junior receiver (I played slot) on our varsity team, which was heavily loaded with senior receivers. Our team completed the regular season 10-0 and made it to the second round of the Texas 5A playoffs. Highlights (enclosed) include a 33-yd. punt return and 69-yd. reception for a touchdown.

My strengths:

* Speed/quickness - 4.44 - 40; 4.06- agility; 6.66 - three cone drill/record

* Athleticism - #1 in TWHS Power Ranking & 8th / 850 at the Houston Nike Combine

* Explosiveness - 39.7 vertical jump

* Versatility/Technical skills - great hands, route-running, CB coverage, returns.

* Work ethic - I push at every practice; workout with a trainer 3X/week and with teammates at gym; practice running routes, catching with QB outside of school.

* Character - Committed Christian; gifted socially and helping out teammates.

* Spirit/Creativity - The chant I wrote was voted as the best by varsity in the Fall '09 and again in '10.

My passion is football so I am looking for a school where I can play and make an impact. While I live in Texas, I'm interested in universities across the country. After my career in football as a player, I would like to pursue a career in a sports related field either in sports broadcasting or in sports management of some kind.

Most of my activities are football related. I'm actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and attend a bible study each week at one of the coach's houses. I coached the Freshman 7on 7 team, as well as a 6th Grade 7on7 team and have coached special needs kids at the Challenger Camp. I've also participated in an outreach activity with Upward football players (elementary age kids) at an area church.
