Personal Statement

My name is Xavier Nickens-Yzer. I'm 6'0, 185lb sophomore at Centreville High school and will graduate in 2015. Last year I played RB and Whip for the Centreville Wildcats and was honored to make the 2012 All-Concorde District Football team.

During the off season I am actively attending camps and combines to improve my skills. So far, I've achieved the following combine awards:

-Running back MVP at the VTO Sports Elite 100 combine
-Leadership MVP at the NUC Combine
-Top-5 Running Back at the 2013 All American Camp

I'm also currently a member of the Washington D.C. Elite 7 on 7 Team.

In addition to attending combines and playing in 7 on 7 tournaments, I spend countless hours in the gym to improve my speed, strength and agility. I'm certain that all my dedication and hard work will pay off as I get accepted into a premiere college with a competitive football program and eventually make it in to the NFL.

Training

  • The Sport & Speed Institute - The best Northern Virginia youth sports performance and speed training programs.
  • 1 year
  • At the Sport and Speed Institute, we offer the best Northern Virginia youth sports performance and speed training programs. Our strength is the ability to combine the science of training with the art of coaching. We believe the primary purpose of a coach is to put an athlete in the best position possible to succeed. The Sport and Speed Team knows how important a coach’s role can be, especially in the life of a young athlete, and believe coaches have a strong responsibility to foster athletic development, both mentally and physically. We take that responsibility seriously and care about the development of our athletes. Our Story The Sport and Speed Institute was founded on the belief that the core values of athletic competition - hard work, perseverance, dedication, discipline and teamwork - are values athletes carry with them on and off the field. At SSI, athletes achieve results through personalized, cutting edge programs delivered through quality coaching that is in keeping with our core values. SSI founder Justin Kavanaugh has been involved in almost every aspect of the sports performance and fitness industry, from being an elite athlete himself, to founding his first sports performance company while still in school, to managing gyms, to developing team and personal training programs. When an injury ended his college football career, he turned his passion and talent to helping other athletes reach their full potential in sports and life. Coach Kavanaugh's unique approach to training builds on his experience as both an elite athlete and an athlete who has endured a life-changing injury. SSI programs build strength, flexibility, speed, and teach proper bio-mechanics to increase performance and decrease chance of injury. Coach Kavanaugh's programs also incorporate his experience with the Nike SPARQ program. SPARQ is a world-wide testing system that evaluates Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, and Quickness. Coach Kavanaugh became involved with the program during the 2004 combines. After becoming a certified speed coach, he tested, trained and evaluated over 25,000 athletes, including stand-outs such as Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, Kansas City Royals first round pick Eric Hosmer, and Florida's winningest softball pitcher Stephanie Brombacher. As a five-sport athlete himself, Coach Kavanaugh also knows the impact a coach can have on a player's life, and that a great coach can help an athlete reach their full potential both on and off the field. That's why SSI coaches not only teach the skills that improve athletic performance, but also provide a positive role model which fosters love of the sport and inspires athletes to be their best.
