I want to push myself to be the best student and athlete. My academic goals include attaining an engineering and marine biology degree while playing Division 1 football. I want to win the Heisman Trophy, play in a bowl game then play professional football. Kraft is 6'0" 148 lbs and has the size and tools to be a productive quarterback. Has good mechanics and a strong arm for his age. He needs to improve his decision making but I really like his work ethic and attitude in his approach. He makes a mistake and goes out there and corrects it. I look forward to seeing his successful high school career over the next few years.

For Phoebus, they’ve just landed a transfer that has to be called a surprise win. For the first time in many years, Phoebus Football will have a “classically trained” quarterback. There have been many athletes that have led the offense at Phoebus in recent years, including the now professional Tajh Boyd. It’s way to early to draw comparisons to any quarterback in the history of the school, but it has to be said that the addition of Jonathan Kraft has the possibility of being a huge boost for the Phantoms. Kraft has transferred in from the now folded Norfolk Christian football program. Coach Jeremy Blunt was hesitant to call the addition a big deal, but his enthusiasm was hard to hide at practice recently. “Jonathan is a really good athlete. He’s had the reps and he’s had success at (Norfolk Christian), and that’s a good thing,” said the coach. “He reminds me of a lot of Eric Enderson (who quarterbacked the Phantoms in 2011). He has a strong arm, he’s tall, he’s very intelligent, he understands coverages, and he picks up things fast. That’s going to be great for our system. When you have our type of athletes to throw the ball to and a kid that can get the ball out there, that’s really exciting.” Phoebus still has other options at quarterback, including Joe Addison, who started for Phoebus most of last season. If Addison is not at quarterback, he’ll be in the slot, and that’s a great development for Blunt’s team. “Everything is a battle for us. No one can ever feel comfortable. We have three running backs, and at any given moment, any one of those running backs can move up that depth chart,” Blunt explained. “That’s why we feel confident every year going into the off season. We’re not rebuilding, we’re reloading because we keep friendly competition with our young guys. We have freshmen that come up and if they can push harder than the guys in front of them, then they’re going to play.” Kraft comes into the Phoebus program with one year to play one season. He’s been impressive on the college camp circuit, but to this point there’s been a possibility that he would reclassify at Norfolk Christian and make this year his junior season. Now the pressure is on for him to perform well and earn scholarships in a season with the Phantoms. He has a vote of confidence from Coach Blunt, and he certainly gets a vote of confidence from his quarterback trainer, Carson Cutler of the ABC Quarterback Academy.
