Personal Statement
Friends and family call me DJ. I play high school football, but enjoy basketball, baseball, lacrosse, and going to the range for target practice and clay pigeons. I enjoy going out on our boat to Lake Anna during the summer for swimming and fishing. During the summer months I volunteer at Camp Red Arrow, which is a church camp for kids, where I help with grounds maintenance, building and repairing structures and mentoring the kids. I also help my parents with our elderly uncle who came to live with us after his wife passed away. He’s confined to a wheelchair and needs assistance with basic needs, which I help with to give him a better quality of life.
I think I would be a great fit for any college program as I have faced adversity and chose to rise above it. In 2011, my biological father died from a blood clot. I was only 11 years old at the time and have a younger brother and sister. I had to be strong for them and lead by example. I decided then that I wanted to continue my education after high school and look into a military career after college. I love the game of football and found solace in it. I look to the positive and strive for perfection through the weight room, to practice and then game day. I want to give one hundred percent at all times as I’ve seen life is short and I don’t want to waste a minute living my dream. I’m a great teammate and strive to be a great mentor to younger players as I do with my siblings. I’m always striving to be better and bring a positive attitude to being coached. I’ve also adopted this attitude in the classroom and aim for straight “A’s”.
In conclusion, I would be a great fit for any coach/school looking for a positive student athlete who will give their all and bring a winning attitude to their program. I want a program that will devote as much time into me as I will them. I want to be coached and mentored, not just in football, but for my future after football as well.
