Even before I started playing football, I knew I wanted to play. Having a background of football from my grandpa and dad, the sport was already a part of my life. Over the years of playing, I loved the community from the coaches, athletes, parents, and students in the stands. They show excitement, support, and cheer while we do our best. During my first year of high school football, I learned discipline, pride, and determination both on and off the field. In the beginning, learning these steps was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I adapted quickly and learned every play so that I knew each one off the top of my head. When I understood that I am capable of beating the person in front of me, I knew football was my game.
Outside of football, one of the most important parts of my life are grades. Having both football and school, I have been taught how to manage my time and make a schedule. My coaches are one of the most helpful influences when it comes to grades. I am thankful for my coaches. They push me to do my homework as much as they push me in a game. With my coaches’ influence, my GPA has significantly increased each quarter. I have also been active and a part of the Boy Scouts of America since I was in first grade. I always saw and leveraged the similarity of leadership in both football and scouts. And I became an Eagle Scout at the age of 15.
In football, leadership is used to bring the team together and work as one unit. This translated over to Boy Scouts when I had to do my Eagle Project ,which is a project led by the scout to help the community. With the scout leading the project, they are not allowed to do the work on the project but lead the other volunteer scouts to successfully complete it. When it came to leading, I quickly learned that smaller groups are easier to manage than a larger group of helpers. Similar to football, you have a small group of players on the field at one time. Everyone has their role, and you are then able to manage the plays and run them like a well-oiled machine.
