Hello, my name is Chikwerendu Obasih, Chikwe for short. Recently, I am currently a junior at Brookfield Central High School, specifically the class of 2013. My family is originally of African descent. My father was born and raised in the country of Nigeria, and at the age of 17, he received a full scholarship to the University of Ohio for academics; so education is a very high value in my family. Currently this school year (2011-2012), I have a cumulative GPA of 3.833 at my high school. I really enjoy the subject of math, especially predicting statistics and actuarial sciences, so finding a university that offer those types of courses and engineering courses would be very appealing.
My family has always been a very athletic one. My father, while still living in Nigeria, competed in track and soccer at a high level for a number of years. Now several of my siblings and me have developed highly athletic abilities as well. For example, my sister, Chidera Obasih, a graduate of Brookfield Central, is a high caliber sprinter in the sport of track. She had won the 100m, and 200m races as a freshmen in the Wisconsin High School State Track Meet (W.I.A.A). She was one of the top female sprinters in the sport of track in the nation during high school, was being recruited by many colleges, and eventually committed to the University of Minnesota. As an athlete, I also possess fairly impressive athletic statistics: -Height: 6'4" -Weight: 235 lbs -Speed: 4.80 -Pro Agility: 4.46 -Broad: 8'10" -Vertical: 29" -Bench: (305lbs), Squat: (485lbs); and plan to play a defensive end/ outside linebacker at the next level.
In retrospect, I have always loved the sport of football. When I was younger, I constantly dreamed of playing football at the college level, making big plays on t.v and possibly winning a national championship. Most of the coaches I have had, admired the way that I lead and conduct oneself on and off the field. During my freshman year, I lead my freshman team in sacks and tied for most tackles and helped us achieve a record of 5-3,and was eventually moved up to the varsity team. As a sophomore, I started all 10 games our varsity team played as the strong side defensive end. Learning under an amazing group of seniors, I learned what it took to play at the varsity level. Overall I had a great season earning Greater Metro All-Conference Honorable Mention and All-Suburban Honorable Mention honors. My junior season, I had to take more of a leadership role and be a huge factor for our defense. I ended up being second on the team in tackles (83 total) and received 1st Team All-Conference honors, 2nd Team All-Suburban, and Honorable Mention AP All-Area. With the contributions made by my team’s strong senior class, my own contribution, and a couple others from underclassmen as well, our team ended with a record of 9-3 and advanced all the way to the Division 1 State quarterfinals.
Overall, I believe that I have the drive, effort, leadership, and the intangibles on the football field of what most coaches look for. My academics are at a very high level, and will continue to be as long as I keep my focus. I have a burning desire play at the highest level of competition and plan to make a huge impact. So with my great work ethic and a motor that will never stop, I plan to work harder and harder until I reach that level. Thank you and best regards, Chikwe Obasih.
