I am a Jr at Elkhorn High School. It seems so young to have such high goals in my life, but I have always wanted to play football. I also want to get a four year college degree and enjoy my job whatever that me be. I see myself playing at the top level college and then one day working in athletics on the business side. I would love to be the next CEO of Nike.
Sports have been in my life since I was a small kid. I have been playing basketball since first grade and football since fifth grade. I have learned at a young age to get along with my teammates, coaches, and even the refs. If a coach tells me to do something I don’t question it. There is always a reason a coach tells you to do something. I have been very well liked by my coaches and I have been told I am very coachable. If I don’t get it right the first time I will practice till it is right. My motto I say is “put me in coach”. I love saying this motto because a player has the will to get into the game and get it done !
When people first see me I get the question Are you a football player? I am told I look just like JJ Watt. My nickname on the team is A.J. Watt. Yes, I am a football player. I have a skill and love this game. I also am a son, brother, and student. I put school first. My mom is a coach and has always told me to get good grades if you want to go to college. I have done well with A’s and B’s. I am social and love to help others. I also am trying to teach another kid to snap a ball, because he wants to try this position. Even though he is having troubles with it I like to help. I also ref basketball for a little kids church team. I love helping out!
I keep very busy playing year round sports. I play basketball in the winter and Rugby in spring . I also tried wrestling for the first time and was number one in my weight division for the conference. Of course I play my favorite sport which is football.
My eighth grade season I made a Club football team called the Racine Rampage. I tried out at two tryouts. The coaches kept saying how strong I was. They had to put me against bigger kids to tackle because I kept taking players comparable to my weight and size down. The bigger kids I also took down, but it was much harder. I made the team and my coach taught me to play center, because at my middle school I only played O line and D line due to weight restrictions in Middle school league. So after practicing with the coaches all summer I was ready to go to some National Tournaments. The coaches even said I snap so fast I had to slow down. Which they have never had to tell a kid before to not snap so fast. I also learned a whole new play book in one month. My team went on to win the National title down in TN at Battle in Rocky top “which I was starting center”. I’m blessed to have such great coaches and great teammates that I will now have as lifelong friends.
My freshman year I started both sides and was a team captain. As a sophomore I also start both sides and also a team captain . I was the only Jr to start on the O line this year.
Varsity D line Coach (2017)
" He is the one most in shape to play both ways without coming out . He is my new favorite player! Best footwork on the team ! He will start OL and DL. "
JV Coach (2016)
" He plays the whole game . He is to talented to take out of the game !"
Coach Tim Rothen (Racine Rampage)
“A.J. was very dedicated to progressing. When he first joined we asked him to play a position he wasn’t accustomed to with kids he didn’t know who had been playing together for a while. By the end of the tournaments he was snapping consistently and his blocking was very solid. He is very coachable and fits in really easily with his teammates. We enjoyed coaching A.J. and sad our time was so short.
