Personal Statement
I'm a self motivated student athlete that will do anything it takes to play football at the next level. I'm an extremely hard worker and always will be. I want too kick at a Division I or Division II school. My only kicking coach I have ever worked with is Taylor Mehlhaff and he believes I have the potential to also kick in college. He wrote this personal recommendation for me.
"2015 TMKicking “Top Prospect” member Jacob Mason has attended numerous camps that I’ve hosted over the course of the last couple years and has also worked with me through private lessons. Jacob is a very talented young kicker with a strong leg, and a ton of upside. He has the work ethic that is needed to excel at the next level. Jacob wants to be one of the best, and is determined to do whatever it takes to get there. He is already a college level kicker…what that level is will depend on his development on kickoffs and transitioning to the ground on field goals over the course of the next 2 seasons. Look for Jacob to have a big junior season and to show everyone why he is one of the top kickers in the area.
Taylor Mehlhaff"
He's taught me the physical aspects of kicking and has also taught me that I need to be that guy who out works everyone else. And I am now. After my freshman year I practiced kicking 4 days a week for most of the off season and then was the starter on varsity my sophomore year. I took every extra point, field goal, and kick off for the team. But even knowing I have the varsity spot I still show up too practice a half hour early to run routes. Then leave last because I stay after and work on my kick offs and field goals everyday.
I also volunteer in the afternoon and coach the 8th grade youth football team and prepare them for the high school game of football.
My 2013 football season I went 4/5 (80%) on field goals this year, and was 30/32 (94%) on extra points, and 24/44 of my kickoffs were touchbacks (55%).
